Two years ago, 90% of the world’s data didn’t exist (according to the independent research organisation SINTEF) and with the growing trend for organisations to make some, if not all of their data open source it’s little wonder that the sheer volume of information available can be overwhelming.

But that’s not the only difficulty faced by researchers in the world of open data – the vast majority of data available is in a raw and unfiltered format, meaning that a considerable amount of cleansing is required before useful information can be extracted from it. TFPL Learning’s Discover Open Data course examines these issues practically and provides attendees with a simple toolkit for discovering and utilising open data effectively.

This course will cover:
•	Where and how to find open data
•	The potential problems with the quality of open data
•	How open data is processed and reused by third party websites and how that can affect accuracy and relevance
•	Tools for acquiring, cleaning and processing raw datasets.
