Hi all, I am already receiving many important comments such as Svetlanas. As
the draft Declaration is now being distributed I agree that it would be
confusing to change it now. We would have different drafts moving round the
world. I think that we should keep collecting responses ( I have recorded
Svetlanas) and consider all for the next draft . I am communicating that we
have a deadline of 19th Feb 2016 for responses, Kind regards Kirsty

Dear All

I am not opposed to this but I do not think it is possible to do this at
this late stage. The declaration has been released and we are going to look
a little foolish if we recall it.

Best wishes

Sam

Dear Sarah, Surya and Anna,

I would like to express my support of the idea to amend Part III of the
Declaration to explicitly mention the corporate duty to protect the climate.

Kind regards

Dear Anna and Surya

I am also in Geneva for the Forum and had a similar reaction. The recent
Oslo Principles on Global Climate Change Obligations provide an interesting
model, stating that primary legal responsibility for averting climate change
rests with both states and enterprises, while all people individually share
a moral responsibility.

I am new to the network, and I am happy to assist if useful.

Best,

Sara

Dear Anna

Thanks. This is really a much needed declaration! I have just tweeted about
it.

Being in Geneva right now for the Business and Human Rights Forum, I felt
that this Declaration should explicitly mention in Part III about a
corporate duty to protect the climate. Paras 13 and 16 rightly go beyond the
state-centric notion of obligations, but then fall short of including
business enterprises expressly. This will be consistent with "non-state
accountability" idea canvassed in the Preamble. If there is an in principle
support for the idea, I will be happy to work with Kristy to work on
appropriate amendments.

Best

Surya

Dear GNHRE network members,

We now have a final draft, thanks to a fantastic collective effort by those
who signed up to get involved, of a Draft Declaration on Human Rights and
the Environment for COP21. Attached.

Please can everyone who wants to support this initiative by endorsing the
Declaration, either individually or on behalf of an organisation you
represent, please do so by emailing Kirsten Davies, who is collating a list
of endorsers. Her email is: [log in to unmask]

She needs the following information: Name, Title, Affiliation.

Secondly, we need native language speakers in French, German, Spanish and
Italian who are able to be contacted by the press about the Declaration. We
also need people who have undertaken media training to take on any broadcast
media interviews. The Press Release is being finalised today, and launched
tomorrow. Please let us know as soon as possible if you can help.

Warmly,

Anna
