Dear Naomi,

Our experience has been that our LA gives the impression of 'making it up as they go along' and haven't got a good grip on the EHCP process yet. The LA has 20 weeks to carry out the assessment for the EHCP - ours did nothing and just copied sections from our son's LDA. Just like with a Statement, you need to ensure that the legally enforceable bits (just the education sections) are very tightly specified - no weasel words like "access to". If you're not happy with the content the appeal route is through SENDisT.

Sorry, no idea what happens when a mainstream college is presented with one.

Phil

Subject: FE funding for students with statements/EHCPs

Is there anyone there who can help myself and a family understand the funding for a child with a statement/soon to become EHCP. They will transition this summer and the child will need everything in place ready.
Further what is law and what is custom and practice.................

We understand that there is either High or low needs in post 16 provision which is then further broken down into elements1/2/ 3 - 3 being the high needs ? This is further categorized into bands 1-4 for learning difficulty - from slight to severe - and then the support hours are given.

Who decides this and what is the essential paperwork which needs to be given to college to support etc.

Seems to be difficult to make this a seamless transition
