Sam Floy, some novel metrics of which areas are 'up-and-coming'. For example the ratio of coffee shops to chicken takeaways, he plans to measure the ratio of cycle repair shops to bargain stores.

And some self-trumpet blowing...

http://fooddeserts.org/images/kontentMaps.htm  maps 17, 18, 26, 27 for London, other areas in course of mapping.

Retail maps of London, brown = no food retailer, yellow = food retailer but few fresh fruit and veg, pale green = indep retailer with 10+ kinds of fruit & veg, dark green = supermarket.
There are several types of area from this, e.g. ethnic minority areas = many pale green, fewer dk green. Sffluent suburb = many brown, a few dk green. Deprived outer suburb = brown, with some yellow (fewer fruit and veg shops).

Any other retail facility related metrics out there?
