Hi Antje, Have you checked this page of relion wiki? http://www2.mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk/relion/index.php/Grouping_procedure It describes scripts (no GUI) that group particles based on the criterion of your choice. I had actually tried what you suggest, but as far as I understand you can only save a new star file with the grouped particles, if you select all the displayed particles and then click "save selected particles to star file" and this is the point, where relion breaks down. Therefor, the gui itself is not the problem. So I am looking for a way to use the grouping procedure implemented in RELION without displaying the particles or a way to save displayed particles different from the way mentioned above. There's a --regroup option. I guess that's what you want. It contains a lot of particles but not many particles per micrograph, so I have to group them. I tried to use the grouping procedure via relion_display, it is working fine until I want to save the selected (all) particles to a star file. Then the program doesn't react any more, i.e. doesn't give me the window to in which you give the star file name. It works fine on a smaller subset of the same data set. Is there a way to use the grouping procedure implemented in the display function without actually displaying the particles? Or should I go back to the "old" procedure and group the particles/ micrographs by defocus values? Or should I rather process the dataset in subsets? Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!
