Research Associate - Luger Lab

Job Description

Summary:

Postdoctoral positions are available immediately in the laboratory of Prof. Karolin Luger, for highly motivated individuals with a strong interest in integrated approaches to problems in genome structure and function. The Luger Lab recently moved to the University of Colorado in Boulder, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and is housed in the new Jenny Smoly Carruthers Biotechnology Building in Boulder, Colorado.

Representative Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

We offer the exciting opportunity to investigate the structure, function, and dynamic properties of eukaryotic chromatin, using a wide variety of biochemical, biophysical, and in vivo approaches. We are particularly interested in understanding how cellular factors such as ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling factors or histone chaperones interact with histones, and how they assemble and disassemble nucleosomes or chromatin during gene transcription and DNA repair. We use multipronged approaches such as x-ray crystallography, small angle x-ray scattering, atomic force microscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, analytical ultracentrifugation, and methods in mechanistic biochemistry / molecular biology as well as genetic approaches to understand the mechanism by which structural transitions in chromatin occur.

Preferred Qualifications:

Applicants should be strongly motivated, ambitious and function well in a highly collaborative environment. Successful applicants must have (or expect) a Ph.D. in an appropriate field. Documented experience in either structural biology, protein purification, whole genome approaches, mechanistic molecular biology is required, and strong quantitative skills are a plus.

Additional Information:

The fellow will benefit from both the outstanding environment in the lab and the highly collaborative CU community, as well as from the outstanding quality of life that Boulder has to offer.
