The University of Manchester Library is pleased to announce the successful completion of a project called 'Behind the Headlines: Documenting the People in the Guardian Archive'.

Funded by this year’s Business Archives Council's Cataloguing Grant for Business Archives, the project aimed to enhance the descriptions of business records in the archive of the Guardian newspaper (and its sister paper the Manchester Evening News). The focus was specifically on records relating to people associated with each newspaper – from the editorial board, correspondents and other contributors, through to the typesetters, drivers and cleaners. Project Archivist Jane Speller also produced a handy guide to researching individuals associated with the two papers, and we digitised an iconic item from the archive – a photograph album from 1921 which depicts every single member of staff working for the Guardian at that time, extending to around 500 individuals in total.

See the final project blog post for further information and for links to the various new resources - https://rylandscollections.wordpress.com/2015/11/30/word-from-the-house-final-blog-post-from-behind-the-headlines/.

We are very grateful to the Business Archives Council for making this project possible.
