Posted on behalf of Activist Group:

TNA has commissioned Activist Group to develop guidance on commercial income generation for archives, to be published in early 2016. Activist Group previously worked with TNA to produce 'In a Spin', the guidance for public sector archives on spin-out governance models, which was published in 2014.

The Income Generation guidance will provide a set of tools to help archivists and their senior colleagues make choices about income generation, and understand how to implement a successful strategy, as well as present a range of case studies with lessons applicable to archives from all parts of the sector.

We would welcome any evidence about your experience of income generation, and volunteers as case studies across any types of commercial income generation, including the following:
• in-house digitisation/conservation
• licensing and publishing
• events
• online/onsite retail
• filming in the search room
• storage rental including public records
• premium research services
• records management
We are particularly interested to hear from archives which have experience in benchmarking their income and expenditure against other services.
If you would like to offer information on any of the above or discuss a potential case study, please email Mike Wynn at [log in to unmask] by 18 November, and a member of the Activist team will contact you for further details, or to arrange a telephone conversation in the following week.
