- Seminar 3pm-4pm UK Time: Monday 19 October 2015: seminar rooms in University of Manchester; Daresbury Labs (Arkwright room) and RAL labs (S48 in R89) have been booked

Video Conferencing Mike Groeber, US Air Force Overview of DREAM.3D “Analysing Data with Ease” [6.2.0 Released]

DREAM.3d http://dream3d.bluequartz.net/ an open, extensible software environment to allow integrated processing, characterization and manipulation of microstructure digitally. DREAM.3D is an architecture for computational microstructure tools that allows users to create ‘recipes’ or pipelines for processing digital instances of microstructure. DREAM.3D establishes a robust set of checks and development guidelines to enable singular codes to operate in conjunction, facilitating larger research efforts/goals Software Architecture: DREAM3D is written using many open-source libraries in a layered approach that allows developers and implementors to use just the parts that they want to use. DREAM3D has a robust plugin system where new functionality can be added by developers. The licensing allows for both proprietary and open-source plugins

Later in the month there is a more computing oriented seminar that may look at tomographic reconstruction code as an example test case:
- 30 October 2015 2pm at RAL (VC to DL) Antoniu Pop, University of Manchester, Programming and Optimizing Task Data-Flow Applications with OpenStream and Aftermath
Dynamic task-dependent parallelism is an increasingly popular programming model on shared-memory systems. Compared to data parallel loop-based concurrency, it promises enhanced scalability, load balancing and locality.
