That is, indeed, the sort of salary I have seen for jobs like that. Low enough to qualify for tax credits, especially for London jobs, until that nice Mr Osborne takes them away.

 

I saw a similar ad recently and couldn’t believe it was that low. I sniffed around and found that it is the “going rate”. Sad.

 

Over the years there has been a boom in the number of jobs – every week brings more ads than there used to be in a year – but as in anything outside finance and the law the pay has been stuck back in the ‘80s.

 

Are there any reliable statistics on salaries in the PEST sector?
