That is, indeed, the sort of salary I have seen for jobs like that. Low enough to qualify for tax credits, especially for London jobs, until that nice Mr Osborne takes them away.
I saw a similar ad recently and couldn’t believe it was that low. I sniffed around and found that it is the “going rate”. Sad.
Over the years there has been a boom in the number of jobs – every week brings more ads than there used to be in a year – but as in anything outside finance and the law the pay has been stuck back in the ‘80s.
Are there any reliable statistics on salaries in the PEST sector?

The person specification says 'educated to degree level or equivalent' and so asking for a recent graduate seems to be out of line both with the person specification and with this government guidance:
