…and if anybody wants to read some other materials, either for historical interest or out of nostalgia, here is a sample of Wellcome Library holdings:

This is a search on “public understanding of science or COPUS”. It’s sorted by date. (I can’t easily exclude the works of Guilielmus Copus.) You can find other items by searching on (say) “science communication”.

You are welcome to visit…

Best wishes

Subject: [PSCI-COM] the history of the 'pus' years

Dear all

I can recommended the very readable PhD thesis by Simon Jay Lock (UCL, 2008), which documents and analyses the events and ideas in our field  from 1985 to 2005.

The Wellcome library team have already answered the question that set us all off. Thanks Elizabeth.

Hi - Laurence Smaje is alive and well, thank you, and living in Beaconsfield. I have been following the debate and have asked him about it, but he doesn’t remember anything specific. He too might be able to dig back into his files and memory bank. Like all retirees he is extremely busy, so it may take a while…  Best wishes Deirdre (Janson-Smith and Smaje)
