The Royal Society of Biology team are really looking forward to Big Biology Day! If you have never been before, I urge to you come along and check it out as it is BRILLIANT.

We are involved in delivering two activity stands at on Saturday and we are still looking for a helper or two for some biochemistry-themed  21st Century BioChallenges activities, developed to facilitate engagement with current issues in biochemistry, focusing particularly on topics related to health and food security. They have been developed by the Royal Society of Biology and funded by the Biochemical Society.

The extra helper is needed for the delivery of a couple of the ten activities that are included in each kit, that are being carried out on the stand on Saturday. We do have one helper from our East Anglia Branch committee and the brilliant Hills Road students are also lending a hand. In addition the wonderful people at STEM Team East are already spreading the word to their local STEM ambassadors but I would be pleased to hear from one or two others who would like the opportunity to run some of these activities with the Big Biology Day crowds. Ideally it would be great to find someone with a bit of knowledge about biochemistry who could help for the whole day (9.30am – 4pm) but the activities can also be run by those with less specialist knowledge as the guidance notes provide background information, key messages and hints and tips on the narrative to use. I will also be on the stand (as well as on the stand next door!) to help demonstrate and facilitate, and to brief any helpers when they first arrive. If you are keen to help out, but can only help for a few hours, please get in touch anyway; probably best to email me direct or call me on 0207 685 2554.

Also to mention that the kits are available to book by groups or individuals – see the website for more details.

Thanks in advance!

Penny

Hi Everyone,

If you're free this Saturday and looking for something to do why not pop along to the Cambridge Big Biology Day? There are activities for the whole family and it's lining up to be an exciting day! More details can be found here:

We'll be exhibiting our sci-fi doctor sim game S.O.R.S there and speaking to teachers about getting the game into classrooms. We'll also have some demo PCs available so you can play the game for yourself! You can read more about the game and its educational topics here:
