Inspired by the cultural materialism of Raymond Williams, Dr. Herbert Pimlott will assess Stuart Hall’s role as a socialist public intellectual via his collaboration with Marxism Today. Analysing the material processes of production and distribution, the
lecture will lay out the contribution to the battle of socialist ideas during the 1980s. The presentation draws from the forthcoming book: Wars of Position? Marxism Today, Cultural Politics and the Remaking of the Left Press, 1979-90 (Historical Materialism
