Just to be clear, Appendix A is one of the approaches that can be followed. The examples Barbara provided do not conform with appendix A, but if the data is in a derived record it is perfectly valid in RDA following the alternative to 1.7.

Hello Barbara,

Look in Appendix A, sections A.3 and A.4. The rules look very similar to AACR2, so the examples with capitals that you gave are not conforming to RDA.

Subject: RDA capitalization

Hello
We (University of Sheffield) aren't yet cataloguing our resources using RDA, but if we import an RDA record we do use it. Recently we've noted that, especially in the 245 field, capitalization seems to be used (eg The Oxford Dictionary of Nursing or Essential Cataloguing) We've checked the RDA toolkit and can't find any reference to this, so have been editing the records (The Oxford dictionary of nursing ; Essential cataloguing). What are other libraries doing and what is the standard?
Any advice gratefully received
Many thanks, Barbara
