Thank you to everyone that replied to my UpToDate Anywhere question. Here are the responses I received:

We have a couple of people who have downloaded the app.  They are not pleased with the having to log in on a Trust PC every so often and my use of the app has dropped off since I have had to log back in on a work PC too.   Having a username and password is not too much of a problem - I suggest to people it would be a good idea to use their Athens account details for ease.  Finally, we are just in the initial stages of launching a new EPR system.  We have had talks with the EPR team about embedding UpToDate and ClinicalKey in the second phase of the roll out, which will happen later next year.

We have had UpToDate Anywhere for nearly a year, and it’s a big hit! The registration process isn’t too much of a problem – we’ve got a link on our Intranet which goes straight to a search page, and they then have to click to register. The only thing that they find inconvenient is having to sign in every 30 (it might now be 60) days using the same link to verify that they still work for the Trust, in order for the app to continue to work, but I think it’s a small price to pay.

Does it benefit you to have UpToDate anywhere? If not I would not take what your rep says as the only scenario possible.

It sounds like your situation exactly mirrors ours - we had the onsite subscription, but have recently moved onto the UTD Anywhere platform following a merger with another Trust.

Currently we only have the stats for the first month of implementation: 271 registrations in all, and 710 topic hits, with app usage accounting for about a third of all hits. About half of the usage was by known (i.e. a registered) users.

As far as we're aware, there haven't been any problems with the registration process, but it's still probably too early to tell if the need to re-authenticate via the link on the intranet is going to catch many people out.

I'm not sure where we are regarding integration with clinical systems; I believe it's a possibility at some point but as far as I'm aware it hasn't been implemented yet.

It’s proving very popular here anecdotally (just got it so no user data yet).  Not embedded yet into clinical systems but our CIO is keen to look at that.  Don’t _think_ that they have done this anywhere in the UK yet.

We do have UpToDate Anywhere since 2014 and I can say the App is very popular. Registering for a username and password is easy and helps us analyse usage statistics effectively. The App was expeiring every month and that was causing problems, and now it expires after 90 days requiring the user to login on site in order to re-activate the App, thus a great improvement. We have not yet managed to get the icon embedded in our clinical systems, but we do have it on the Trust Intranet and the icon appears in all desktops.

We had a quote earlier this year for UTD Anywhere and it was much more expensive than we are paying at the moment. The Trust is looking at integrating it with the Clinical System here in the future but they are introducing a new patient record system at the moment which is taking priority.

They should be able to offer you just normal UpToDate which is Athens authenticated, this is what we have at the moment.  UpToDate Anywhere is their premium product, more expensive and they are keen to push this.

The plan is to embed UpToDate into our new electronic patient record – then we have been told we will have to have UpToDate Anywhere.

I work in a Trust that has a trust wide sub to UTD, we operate across many different sites, but use the one intranet., and we have the original  sub. We did not take out the extended anywhere sub as it would be too expensive.

Best wishes,

Lucy
