In case it did to the rest of you, and your desperate to know what pearls of wisdom I had to share, here is a possibly slightly different version

I was replying to Chris email about URLS.

I disagree that you shouldn’t have URLs in your data, or at least links to external data, as that is a more user friendly way of linking to the data than just the reference number and then having to search for it. You just need to bear in mind that they need managing appropriately.

I think the issue in this case is that the NHLE really needs a permanent unchanging URL (or DOI if that’s appropriate?).  EH (as was) managed it for Pastscape, and I would suggest that it is more important that it be achieved for the online list of legally protected sites. To the HEng people on the list – please consider that a real suggestion
