Studies

University
of Wisconsin‐Madison
invites
applications
for
the
Lipton
Professorship
in
Eastern
European Jewish
Studies. Appointment will be as assistant professor, full-time, tenure-track. Field
of research
and teaching
specialization
is open. Scholars
working in the social sciences, arts and humanities are encouraged to apply.
We seek applications from literature,
history, religion,
sociology,
anthropology,
art history, musicology,
gender and
women’s studies,
and other
disciplines. The appointee
will hold a joint appointment between the Center for Jewish Studies
and a relevant
department as
appropriate.
Appointment is
to begin
in August
2016.
Applicants
should hold
a doctorate or
anticipate its
completion by the start of the
appointment. Candidates
should demonstrate
evidence of
creativity and
excellence
in research
and
teaching. They
are expected
to have
comfort with
inter-disciplinary scholarship
in Jewish
studies and
situate
the
study
of Jews and Judaism within
broader, comparative
contexts. Fluency
in
Yiddish
is required,
and
proficiency in
the languages
of
the
region
of specialization
and topic
of study
is expected.
