“During colonialism, unlike the record keeping of the white people, if a
native estate record came to the archive, it was not automatic that
they were accepted. They had to be appraised in order to determine
whether they were valuable to the archive. Due to this procedure, many
of the native estate records were destroyed or if kept, never processed.
“The
archive could only give you what they have. Information can be there
but if it is not processed, nobody would find it,” Namhila said.
