Salary: £33,242 to £54,841 (pay award pending)
Closing Date: Tuesday 20 October 2015

We are seeking candidates for a lectureship / senior lectureship with research interests in any area of Medical Statistics but appointments that strengthen our existing research groups in Pharmaceutical Statistics, Biostatistics and Epidemiology are particularly sought. You should have a proven track-record in publishing research work of international quality and demonstrate a clear potential for attracting research funding and research studentships.

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics hosts one of the largest and strongest statistics research groups in the UK comprising 25 academic staff, 10 research associates and around 50 FTE research students. In the 2014 REF assessment, Mathematical Sciences at Lancaster was ranked fifth overall and third in terms of the impact of its research. The Statistics Research Group takes a leading role in the development of statistical methodology and the application of statistics in medicine and industry. Current research interests include Biostatistics, Clinical Trials, Epidemiology, Extreme Value Theory, Markov chain Monte Carlo, Particle Filtering, Time Series and Wavelets.

The Department’s Medical and Pharmaceutical Statistics Research Unit (http://www.mps-research.com) works closely with the pharmaceutical industry and public sector researcher institutes to develop novel statistical methods for the design and analysis of clinical trials. It leads the EU-funded research training network IDEAS (www.ideas-itn.eu) and is an integral part of the MRC-funded North-West Hub for Trials Methodology Research, leading the Hub workstream on early phase clinical trials as well as the adaptive designs working group of the MRC Network of Hubs for Trials Methodology Research (http://www.methodologyhubs.mrc.ac.uk/).

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics has thriving undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Statistics. Our MSc course in Statistics attracts over 20 students each year and has seven NIHR/MRC funded studentships for students enrolled on pathways in medical and pharmaceutical statistics. The newly established interdisciplinary MSc in Data Science, a cross-departmental initiative with Computing and Environmental Sciences, is training 60 students each year. In collaboration with the Department of Management Science, it hosts the EPSRC-funded Centre for Doctoral Training in Statistics and Operational Research in partnership with industry, STOR-i.
