Medical Statistician – Vascular Disease Mega-trials and Genetic Epidemiology

CTSU, Nuffield Department of Population Health, University of Oxford

Closing Date : Mon, 23 Nov 2015 13:00:00 GMT | Grade 7: £30,434 – £37,394 p.a.

The Clinical Trial Service Unit (CTSU) is a major international research institute within the Nuffield Department of Population Health, and is one of the world’s leading centres for research into chronic diseases, such as cancer and heart disease.

An opportunity has arisen for a talented Medical Statistician to join a research group focussing on the aetiology and genetics of vascular disease and its treatments. Cardiovascular disease and its consequences are a major health burden and the very large-scale clinical trial, epidemiological and genetic data that are emerging provide the opportunity for many exciting investigations that may have widespread implications for population health. Furthermore, these extensive data resources require well-structured manipulation, programming and statistical analyses to yield their full potential.

The successful candidate will investigate the causal relevance of vascular risk factors and use genetic epidemiological approaches to advance our understanding of vascular disease and its treatments. You will be involved in planning research, implementing statistical analyses and interpreting the implications for population health in a role that provides an exciting opportunity to develop a career as well as your experience and expertise within a leading academic unit.

You will have a PhD or MSc plus equivalent research experience in a numerate or computational discipline, and will have demonstrated excellent skills and knowledge in statistical programming and analysis, and be competent to develop these skills as well as new skills in, for example, genetic epidemiology.

The post is full-time and fixed-term for 3 years, in the first instance.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Monday 23 November 2015.
