Does this mean that whatever I enter in the threshold window (T or p value) after selecting the contrast of interest does not influence the written contrast image?

The creation of contrast images does not require any thresholds. The thresholding step is separate from creating the contrasts. If you are using the con_ images in the group analysis, no thresholding should be done.

The threshold chosen at the first-level for other types of analysis or reporting results depends on what the goals of thresholding the data.
