* Latest primary features on NRICH *

Central to mastering mathematics is understanding its underlying
structures and this involves being fluent at generalising and proof.
Take a look at our new feature, Mastering
Mathematics: Developing Generalising and Proof, which will support
you in helping learners 'dig deeper' into mathematical tasks and get
better at generalising and, ultimately, at proving.

Our latest Early Years article,
written by Dr Sue Gifford, discusses a recently published parents' guide,
which identifies appropriate expectations and support in all the areas
of learning in the Foundation Stage. It is essential reading for EY
practitioners and parents of under fives.

* Latest secondary features on NRICH *

We have just published a new feature for secondary teachers, Starting
term the NRICH way. If your resolution at the start of the new term
is to use more rich tasks with your classes, then we hope this feature
offers you suitable activities.

The latest feature from CMEP for Key Stage 5 students, Finding
your Feet, is now live. These resources help to bridge the gap
between Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5.

Did your students submit solutions to any of our recent problems or
toughnuts? They are now available to view on our Recently
Solved page.

Short Problems
If you are a fan of using our weekly problems with your classes, you'll
be pleased to know that we have just published an archive page with all
the weekly problems grouped by curriculum topic. We hope you'll find
them useful as lesson starters, homework tasks, or assessment exercises.

You can find them on our Secondary
Curriculum page or you can go straight to the Short
Problems.

* The NRICH Maths Roadshow *

The Roadshow is now taking bookings up until February. Please get in
touch if you would like a visit from us. If you haven’t had a visit
before the NRICH Roadshow is a great way to engage students with
different types of problems. It is a collection of hands-on mathematical
puzzles, games and activities that can be brought to schools by our
NRICH Maths Roadshow Co-ordinator, Becky Warren, for a special maths
event. Roadshow activities are designed to promote creative approaches
to mathematics and strategic thinking and to stimulate mathematical
curiosity. The activities are taken from ideas on the NRICH website
translated into physical form and teachers are encouraged to use the
visit as a source of rich tasks for the classroom.

For more details please visit the website: maths.org/roadshow

* Wild Maths *

We've launched a new site for 7 to 16 year olds, and we'd love you to
share it with your students!

Wild Maths is aimed at 7 to 16 year
olds exploring maths beyond the classroom. NRICH has always aimed to
encourage creative thinking, curiosity, exploration, discussion and
discovery, supporting you in making maths learning rich, rewarding and
exciting. Our new Wild Maths project aims to take this one step further,
and is packed with mathematical games, challenges, investigations and
articles aimed at children and students working individually, or with a
parent.

Wild Maths is currently still growing, and we will continue to develop
the site over the next year. Feedback is welcome (email [log in to unmask]).
Meanwhile, please invite your students to explore - you can find the
free online resources at http://wild.maths.org

* Continuing Professional Development *

* NRICH Team News *

As you may already be aware, our NRICH team is expanding. We would like
to welcome Becky Warren, who will be taking over the reins of our NRICH
Hands-On-Maths Roadshow. Meanwhile, Fran Watson will become our joint
NRICH Primary Co-ordinator and she will focus on further developing our
teacher CPD programme. And, I am settling into my new role as NRICH
Director and looking forward to an exciting term ahead with the team.

STIMULUS News - We'd also like to welcome Jacqui Watkins, the new
Co-ordinator for the STIMULUS programme, which creates placements for
Cambridge University student volunteers in local Cambridge schools.
Jacqui is taking over from Rob Percival. On behalf of all the students
and schools involved in STIMULUS, we would like to thanks Rob for all
his hard work on the programme and wish Jacqui well in her new role.
