Service Users Adapting to Change Wrexham Museum 8th October 2015 Cardiff Story Museum 15th October 2015 This free course is provided by the Welsh Government and is open to staff and volunteers working in museums, archives and libraries in Wales. It is suitable for those who are facing significant change in the way their service is delivered and wish to: * Prepare current users for the change * Resolve conflict around the change * Support users as they adapt to the change Aim Course participants will gain knowledge of techniques for supporting users to understand, prepare for and adapt to change. Participants will develop skills in change and user / stakeholder management. They will develop an understanding of user engagement including involving users in the change. They will gain confidence in communication skills and will understand how to develop a shared vision for service delivery. By the end of the course participants will be able to * Identify a change situation which requires user involvement * Understand the process users will go through when trying to understand or react to the change * Develop a user map * Involve users in planning for change and creating a shared vision * Develop a user research and communications plan Training Methods Hopkins Van Mil: Creating Connections provides a course handbook with resources through which the training session will be delivered. Participants will learn by: * Listening to short trainer presentations * Discussing the issues with peers using relevant case studies to stimulate thinking * Working through tailored exercises * Developing their own plans for consulting and communicating with users Preparation Participants are encouraged to bring with them a clear idea of the breakdown of their current users. Trainer Hopkins Van Mil is about engagement to gain organisational insight. We build capacity for change through advisory services, training and mentoring. Our aim is to empower organisations, teams and individuals. The trainers will be Anita van Mil (8 October) and Henrietta Hopkins (15 October). Anita and Henrietta are Senior Trainers with 20 years' experience in training in the museums, libraries and archive sector. Since the early 1990s they have designed and led significant training programmes on an extensive range of heritage management issues in the UK and the Netherlands. Recent training includes change management for the Archives and Records Association; visioning sessions for the Dorset History Centre and the Bexley Heritage Trust and Strategic Marketing for museums in Azerbaijan commissioned by the British Council.
