Contract Type: Fixed-term for a period of 12 months

Faculty: Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry & Health

Summary:

Based in the Academic Unit of Dental Public Health in the School of
Clinical Dentistry, this is an exciting opportunity for a Research
Associate to join an interdisciplinary research team connected to the
Population and Person Centered Health Group in the Dental School and the
Sheffield Institute for Studies on Ageing. You will also work closely
with our industrial partners GlaxoSmithKline and our collaborators at
the University of Edinburgh. The post will involve conducting a
qualitative study seeking to discover and explain the significance of
the mouth in old age. The study will involve examining the diversity of
experiences in relation to the mouth and oral health in older age,
looking at how both patterns of oral health and health care and also
inequalities across the life course have an impact on lived experiences
of oral health in later life.

In order to achieve this you will have skills to be able to develop and
design research, collect and analyse data to a high standard. You must
be familiar with the dissemination of research outputs, contribute to
the development of future research proposals and undertake some
specified teaching and administration as agreed. A PhD in the sociology
of health and illness or other relevant subject but experience of
sociology is essential.

This post is fixed-term for a period of 12 months with an intended start
date of November/December 2015.
