Dear all,
Please see below an offer of a large collection of vintage guidebooks looking for a good home in a UK library :
--

Following a recent bequest, a collection of vintage guidebooks to British historic sites, especially castles, is to be disposed of. The recipients would be willing to donate them to a scholarly library with an interest in the history of architecture, historic buildings or tourism. The collection contains about 1,200 items, from the 1920s to around 1980. About half of the collection comprises Ministry of Public Buildings & Works and successor bodies publications. The geographical coverage is the whole UK; there are often several editions of guides for a single site. The publications are in reasonable condition, bearing in mind their age and ephemeral nature, but clearly 'used'. The pre-war ones still have their covers on but some are a little bit fragile, staples are rusting; the leaflets are a bit dog-eared but not torn. The collection takes up approximately 2.5 metres of shelf space and is very largely 'Blue Guide' size. Collection by mutual arrangement.
