In most organisations website search and enterprise search applications are managed on an ad hoc basis, with limited staff and budget resources and no clear objectives other than "We want it to be as good as Google!".  As with any corporate resource, search objectives and resources need to be set out in a strategy document that also reflects the relationship between content quality and search quality.

Course outline
The course will be a mixture of presentations and group work to enable delegates to return to their organisations with a detailed template for a corporate search strategy that will cover:

-	Defining objectives for website and enterprise search
-	Developing search personas and use cases
-	Who should take responsibility for a search strategy
-	The challenges of managing SharePoint and open source search applications
-	The role and responsibilities of a search manager
-	Assessing search performance, satisfaction and business impact
-	Integrating a search strategy with an information management strategy
-	Implications of mobile search
-	Planning for future requirements and technology advances

Who should attend?
Managers in the public, corporate and academic sectors who have a responsibility for the development and success of website, intranet and other enterprise search applications. No technical knowledge of search technology will be required.

Course presenter
The course will be presented by Martin White, Managing Director, Intranet Focus Ltd. He has been involved in the search business for nearly 30 years and has written three books on the subject, most recently Enterprise Search for O'Reilly Media. Intranet Focus Ltd has recently launched The Search Circle, a fee-based annual information service for search managers.
