Hi all,

We have 3M self service machines and use RFID for issue and return. We also have the machines set up for fines payment.

One machine is cash only (coins and notes) and the other machine is coins or Chip and PIN. We have had this working successfully for quite a few years now. SIP2 is used for issue/return/renew/check library record and we have the Innovative Fines Payment Web Service which is used for fines payment. Our LMS is running Sierra 1.2.2_5.

We implemented online fines using WPM in January this year and that is now the most popular method with students for fines payment (about 60%), with card payments at the machine in second place and cash payments 3rd.

If you have any questions on any of the above give me a shout ☺

Regards,

Emma

Hello,

We had 3M selfcheck machines working with coin payments using the Sierra Fines Payment Web Service (originally implements in Millennium) but it stopped working nearly a year ago and neither Innovative or 3M have yet been able to figure out why (not that either are actually trying to).

I've been told by 3M that the public libraries in Ireland have this working (with the Fines Payment API) so it should be possible to do.

If you haven't already implemented the old Fines Payment API it might be worth looking at the new REST APIs - if these have fine payment functionality it might be a better option. Some documentation on the III sandbox:

Hi Caroline,

If you get anyone answering how to do this, I would love to hear! We used to pay fines from the ID card on our old LMS, and since moving to Sierra, we no longer have this ability. From the discussions we have had, SIP2 is not configured to use the correct messages so will not work. We have been told the Fines API may be the answer. So if anyone out there in III land can give info on implementing this, I too would be most appreciative of how to set it up.

Thanks

Subject: Fines payment and self check machines

Dear all

We don’t currently offer fines payment at our self-check machines and I have been looking at it briefly and it seems that the SIP2 interface (which is what we currently use) doesn’t necessarily support fines payment.

We do have the fines payment web service (not implemented) so I was wondering whether anyone is using this.

We currently have 3M machines although we have an RFID project looming and so this may change.

Would any of you be willing to share what you use?

Do any of you use SIP2 and the fines payment web service?

If not how do you do it?

Thanks for your help.

All the best,

Caroline.
