RC31 Sociology of Migration Sessions: https://isaconf.confex.com/isaconf/forum2016/webprogrampreliminary/Symposium290.html RC05 Racism, Nationalism and Ethnic Relations Sessions: https://isaconf.confex.com/isaconf/forum2016/webprogrampreliminary/Symposium316.html You might be interested in this session: Ethno-Political Battles of Middle Eastern Diasporas: There is increased ethnic, sectarian and religious violence and ensuing cross-border movement of peoples within the Middle East, and into and out of the region. The colonial impositions and borders are being questioned, and the previously accepted orders are being challenged (e.g. by Kurds). Ethno-political movements based in, and originating from, the Middle East are also increasingly self-assertive and articulate. By paying attention to these recent developments, papers in this session will discuss the ethno-political struggles and demands of diasporas originating from the Middle East. Whilst some submissions might choose to focus on Middle Eastern diasporas living in for example, Europe or Latin America, there is the possibility for papers to examine the Middle Eastern diasporas within the Middle East. Papers could focus on a particular group or engage in a comparative study. Submissions which explore the transnational links, activities and ethno-political battles of diasporas are particularly welcome.
