The Library, Art & Archives department is responsible for organising and managing Kew’s paper collections and related electronic content in these three areas. All Modern Records are currently held in paper format in Kew’s Registry. The section is currently working closely with the IT department, specifically the Information Management Systems (IMS) Project staff, with a view to the introduction of an electronic document and records management system (EDRMS) in the near future.

Joining the modern records function within the Archives and Records Management team you will play a vital role for Kew in helping to ensure that records across the institution are captured and organised in an efficient manner by maintaining the paper recordkeeping system (Registry) and assisting with the management of the EDRMS. You will provide an essential service to Kew staff in making records accessible and you will work closely with records management colleagues to encourage good records management practice throughout Kew.

With a minimum of 5 GCSEs, including English, or equivalent,  you will have good IT skills and a demonstrable interest in records management. You will have the ability to understand the principles of records management and the context of Kew’s working practices necessary to working with Kew’s recordkeeping systems.  With effective communication skills, you will be able to liaise with Kew staff and representatives of other organisations.  You will also have good organisational and time management skills, and be able to work with minimal supervision and prioritise work so as to deliver an excellent service.

The role is suitable for someone who is studying by distance for the records management qualification, or who is searching for experience prior to starting a records management course. Please note this is not an archives role and not suitable for a qualified records manager or archivist.
