Senior Biostatistician

Job Ref: IRC201415

MRC Human Nutrition Research (HNR), Cambridge

Salary:   £36,657 to £49,520 per annum

Hours:   Full Time

Fixed term until 31 December 2018

Closing date: 11th September 2015

Interview date: 18th September 2015

We seek to appoint a Senior Biostatistician to lead HNR’s Biostatistics team and provide statistical governance of the UK National Diet and Nutrition Surveys Rolling Programme (NDNS RP).

The NDNS RP is designed to assess the dietary habits and nutritional status of adults and children in the UK. The survey is unique as it provides the only source of high quality data on dietary intake and nutritional status in a representative sample of the population. NDNS RP reports are published as an Official Statistic and are therefore subject to formal government publication requirements and controls.

The post-holder will oversee, plan and direct the appropriate use of statistical methodology, including developing new approaches to tackle specific questions where needed. The post-holder will take responsibility for the quality of the production and interpretation of Official Statistics, and writing of methodological reports, in collaboration with NatCen and other external partners for the NDNS RP. The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the dissemination activities of NDNS RP through the conduct of statistical research, high-quality publications and oral and written presentations of results at scientific meetings.

Additionally, the post holder will provide senior statistical advice on the design of studies and analysis of data generated from other ongoing projects at HNR.

A postgraduate qualification (PhD/MSc) in statistics or mathematics is a prerequisite. The post requires strong statistical foundations, expertise in complex survey methodology and experience of supervision of junior statisticians. Candidates must have an established track record in biostatistics and excellent communication skills.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position with salary dependent on qualifications and experience. In addition to your salary we offer a flexible pay and reward policy, 30 days annual leave, free on-site car parking and optional membership of MRC’s final salary pension scheme.
