DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM, UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO

 

We are seeking applications from research active individuals at the level of Lecturer. Individuals from the fields of Hospitality and Events are encouraged to apply while those working in other areas of Tourism will also be considered. This vacancy offers applicants the opportunity to join the vibrant and progressive Department of Tourism, at the University of Otago.

 

Applicants for the position of Lecturer must hold a PhD and have a demonstrated record of publication in high quality academic journals. All applicants should be able to demonstrate a clear commitment to team work and the ability to enhance the teaching, learning and research environment of the Department of Tourism. The ability to supervise postgraduate students and source external research funding are critical components of this position as is a willingness to engage with the wider community.

 

The successful candidate will be required to develop research-informed teaching programmes and encouraged to contribute to ongoing curriculum innovation.

 

The Department is located in the South Island’s southern tourism region which includes Queenstown, the Central Otago Lakes region and Fiordland which are famed for adventure and wildlife tourism products, ski fields, extensive alpine national parks, and indigenous Maori tourism enterprises, among other things. Dunedin is a harbour city of outstanding Victorian heritage set adjacent to the Otago Peninsula and its unique marine wildlife. It offers a temperate climate and an excellent quality of life.

 

The preferred starting date for the successful applicant will be late 2015 (start date will be open to negotiation).
