Open position: PhD or Post-Doc position for an interdisciplinary project in man-machine interaction, Department of Biometry and Medical Informatics , University of Magdeburg, Magdeburg, Germany

The Department of Biometry and Medical Informatics of the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg is offering

PhD or PostDoc
(Salary level 13 TV-L, full-time, limited to 3 years)

for the project EMOADAPT (supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, BMBF)
The goal of the interdisciplinary project EMOADAPT is the further development of a brain computer interface that allows emotions to be recognized by the computer in real time and implemented in the interaction between man and machine. For detection and identification of emotional changes in the human-machine interaction, imaging techniques (functional magnetic resonance imaging), EEG and classic peripheral psychophysiological parameters should be combined. The interaction between humans and machine takes place in virtual reality scenarios, which are to adapt in real time to emotions/dispositions of the user.

Position description:
The main tasks will be the development and optimization of methods of measurement and evaluation strategies for real-time detection of activated brain areas during a dynamic interaction within virtual realities. The candidate will be part of a team of two scientific employees, one programmer and students. The work will be in close cooperation with an interdisciplinary group (Dr. Kerstin Krauel, Clinic for Child- and Adolescent Psychiatry (OvGU), Prof. Dr. Eva Brinkschulte, Institute for History and Ethic in Medicine; Dr. André Brechmann, Special Lab Non-Invasive Brain Imaging of the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology). The main focus of research activity is realtime fMRI and combined fMRI / EEG. As a further focus the Realtime Pattern Classification is to be expanded. Possibility for further qualification is offered.

Your profile:
The candidate should hold a PhD in physics, informatics, engineering or neuroscience or aim to complete an according doctorate. Support of the project management is expected.
