It depends on the risk assessment and what standards the employer wants to apply. Risk assessment could show some drivers have exposure to lots of motorway driving at times that are higher risk for motorway sickness and poor driver response. Others may not. They may want to apply an annual self declaration form based on Group 2 standards for those higher risk drivers backed up by an education and training regime about what the employee needs to be aware of and self assessing for day to day etc.....but first you have to assess the risk.

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] fitness to drive

OH requirements of our grey fleet drivers.

Grey fleet are staff that drive their own vehicles on work business as part of their work, this isn’t the same as commuting or being responsible for vocational driving.

These drivers may be attending meetings, carrying colleagues, equipment or even service users, in their own private cars. I can’t find any information to suggest employers would have a legal requirement to provide OHS for this cohort of employees but may have missed something.

I don’t think it’s necessary for them to have any type of assessment as at present we only offer "driver medicals"  to vocational drivers of minibuses and there’s no legal requirement to cover these workers.

Does anyone deal with these drivers?
Thank you

Lynda
