Apologies: 30 minutes ago I sent the msg below, but without the web location of the obituary file: https://goo.gl/ELDJQE

Dear Colleagues,

One week ago, on August 8th, Abner Shimony (1928-2015) the former Boston University physicist and philosopher died at age 87 years. His passing deserves noting as he was one of the most substantial figures in modern philosophy of science. He had the rare combination of competence in both physics and philosophy, and made substantial contributions to research in both fields. Further he had some important connections with the HPS and Science Teaching research community and debates occurring within it. Abner provided a wonderful model for all those in the community promoting the mutually beneficial interconnections of science, philosophy, education and culture.

For those so interested, a brief personal appreciation of Abner's life and work can be found at: https://goo.gl/ELDJQE

Regards,

Michael
