medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
As well as Ann Matter's book already recommended by Vadim, Denys Turner's Eros and Allegory: Medieval Exegesis of the Song of Songs (1995) is a wonderful resource, both for his study and the accompanying anthology.

I used to teach some classes on the Song of Songs in medieval mysticism. Often enough there was some surprise at the eroticism of this tradition, but in one particular semester I had a class that responded very negatively: they felt that these writers had "hijacked" erotic language to which they were somehow not entitled. -- Paul

Steve,

I've never read courses at the US universities. I love and use Ann Matter's book on medieval exegesis of the Song of Songs:

I teach an undergraduate course on medieval theology. I would like to teach a class or two on the interpretation of the Songs of Songs in this class. If you teach on this subject matter, what text/s does you use? Is there an article or a chapter on the interpretation of the Song of Songs that would be good for undergraduates?

Thanks!

Steve
