Some context:

Jisc Library Support Services Review – A request for practitioner input

Background

Notwithstanding vendor developments to cohere their systems through such as unified search and new generation LMS products, the library systems landscape is as turbulent as ever – with challenges such as Open Access and tracking research outputs adding new layers of complexity. Consequently library and end user workflows are using a number of local systems and shared services.

Jisc is therefore reviewing the range of services it offers to UK academic libraries and their users. We want to be sure that these services are both addressing real library management needs in themselves and also ‘playing well’ with the other systems in administrative and user workflows.

This builds on the review of Copac services and the survey completed by over 80 libraries in July.

Consultation Events

Jisc has contracted Sero Consulting to review its services in this context, reporting at the end of October. Many of you have already participated in the first step, the library survey. The next step is to run workshops where libraries can consider the survey findings and reflect together on how services might be enhanced to provide greater efficiencies (saving time, interoperating better) and to make their end-user services more effective.

We will be holding four focus group events, themed to cover particular areas of library activity. Whilst there will be overlaps in the discussions from event to event, we hope the themes will be useful to library colleagues, especially in sharing practice and requirements.

A more detailed explanation of the workshops is attached.

Thank you.

Best,

Frank
