Hi Nick,

The Charnwood Roots project used staff at the University of Leicester to analyse LiDAR for the Charnwood area and now they’re ground truthing with volunteers.  Might be worth talking to them about their project?  The University unit (ULAS) certainly seem to be doing a fair bit of LiDAR interpretation these days.  The organiser of Charnwood Roots is Dr Julie Attard [log in to unmask].

Thanks,

Hi Guys

Thanks for all the replies – plenty to be going on with

For the nosy – we are looking at possibly starting a project using volunteers to scan LIDAR, and need someone with more experience of LIDAR than me to train/check their interpretations.

Might be a short project, might grow into a larger one. Early days still

Thanks again

Best wishes

Hi Nick,

I’d second contacting Helen Winton, also Simon Crutchley for impartial advice. Have you got the data already or are you planning to procure/commission?

As for contractors, Rebecca Bennett is not only very quick off the mark at replying to emails re potential opportunities, but knows a lot about LiDAR.

And I can think of one other who undertakes such work, has over a decade of experience and has just finished a rather lovely LiDAR interpretation project in the south west which you may care to peruse…

All best,

P ;-)

Hi Nick

You could contact Helen Winton (Aerial Investigation and Mapping Manager for Historic England) off list . Helen will know a lot about specialists working in this subject area.

Hello folks

Can anyone suggest any LIDAR archaeological interpreter type people, particularly based towards the northern end of England?

I have thought of Historic England, and possibly contractors, but if anyone knows actual names to approach that would be good.

thanks

best wishes
