Hello everyone

we have a new 3 year NERC-funded post-doc position available at Aberdeen.

****
The project aims to systematically quantify directional variations in the permeability of rocks under truly triaxial stresses, utilising a new state of the art true triaxial deformation apparatus (based at University College, London). Our goal is to understand the 3D coupling of permeability, truly triaxial stress, rock fabric and fluid pressure. The post is based at the University of Aberdeen, but forms part of a joint project with Dr Tom Mitchell and Professor Phil Meredith at University College, London. The post holder will be required to advance this research programme by measuring and quantifying permeability anisotropy in deformed rocks, numerically modelling the consequences for fault stability (with Project Partner Dr Frederic Cappa based in Nice, France) and summarising results and writing up findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 6 salary scale (£31,342 - £32,277 per annum) with placement according to qualifications and experience. Consideration will be given to candidates in the final stages of completing their PhD. Appointments made at this level will be paid on the Grade 5 salary scale (26,274 - £29,552 per annum). As this post is funded by NERC, it will be offered for a period of 3 years. Any appointment will be made subject to satisfactory references.
