Junior Bioinformatics Technician – Manchester

BSc in Computer Science / BSc in Bioinformatics plus some Linux exp required!

I am currently recruiting for a junior level Bioinformatics Technician role based in Manchester with a highly successful, growing molecular diagnostics organisation. This company are developing a product which is already being used by health care providers in the UK and Europe. This is great chance to join a truly entrepreneurial organisation that has support from an experienced management team and investors.

Responsibilities include:

·         Day-to-day administration of Linux-based server systems including data backup and archiving

·         Supporting users of bioinformatics computing systems and installed software

·         Contribute to administration and support of Windows-based servers hosting network file services

·         Writing and maintaining documentation around configuration of computer systems and installed software

·         Liaising with the external company-wide I.T. support function, and some day-to-day general I.T. support

·         Participation in specifying and purchasing computing hardware and software

Essential Requirements:

 

·         Educated to degree level in Computer Science or other scientific discipline

·         Ability to work independently, with good organisational and documentation skills

·         Experience working in scientific, bioinformatics or engineering computing environments

·         Experience UNIX/Linux shell scripting, Perl

·         Direct experience working with NGS data sets would also be an advantage

·         Experience of administering Linux-based server systems.

·         A working knowledge of basic IP networking configuration and protocols.
