Hi there,

With numerous papers or guidelines suggesting different times for serum being on the clot to allow for the accurate measurement of serum potassium (my search suggests that the ideal separation time varies from 30 minutes to 10 hours)….what target time do routine chemistry labs have from sample taken to sample separated?

Also is this monitored and reported to primary care and is transport tweaked to try to ensure a maximum taken to separation time.

Many thanks for any references or comments.

Steven
