Subject: Barbara Hepworth: life and selected archives, 14 July, 14:00-16:00, The National Archives, Kew, TW9 4DU: free

Dear all, To coincide with the major Tate exhibition on Barbara Hepworth, we are delighted to present an afternoon of talks in partnership with Tate colleagues. The talks will be hosted at The National Archives, Kew, on 14 July 14:00-16:00.

This afternoon of talks will examine Barbara Hepworth’s life and work through records held by selected archives, including The National Archives and Tate Archive.

Inga Fraser, Assistant Curator of Modern British Art 1890-1945 at Tate Britain and assistant to curators of the exhibition Barbara Hepworth: Sculpture for a Modern World at Tate Britain, will talk about the archival materials (including Hepworth’s correspondence with the artist Ben Nicholson) that have helped shape the Tate exhibition, the first major presentation of Hepworth’s work in London for fifty years.

Briony Paxman, Modern Records Specialist at The National Archives, will use records from The National Archives to explore the 1951 Festival of Britain, looking at contributions of Hepworth and other artists, their place in the festival and the festival’s legacy for the arts.

Morwenna Roche and Bianca Rossmann from Tate Archives will discuss their project to catalogue Barbara Hepworth’s personal and professional papers, which provide a fascinating and rich insight into her life and work.

The talks will be accompanied by a display of selected original and facsimile documents from the collections from The National Archives and Tate Archive.

We'll be holding a live Twitter Q&A after this event (16:15-17:00), with all of the speakers taking part. Follow @UKNatArchives and join in using #hepworthqa

The event is free, and online booking is available here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/talk-barbara-hepworth-life-and-selected-archives-tickets-17423944487

Best wishes, Fleur
