Here's a few I've used over the years - the Bushisms are included for light relief - needless to say the last three quotes although unattributed are Bushims too.  With apologies to American colleagues - no offence meant.

I use a form of that with my students each year.

She set high goals for her crew and then let them run and accomplish them any way they wanted. Hopper often told people she would come back to haunt anyone who claimed as justification for a particular procedure that it had always been done that way. She was quick to eliminate obsolete and redundant practices and those adding no value to the product.
To encourage innovation and risk taking, she always advised: “Go ahead and do it, you can always apologize later.”

Hi Kelly

I love a good motivational quote…perhaps I should spend less time reading them and more time doing something lol J

Anyway, I think this one is particularly relevant to academia:

Greetings, all.

At the risk of asking for the trivial, I thought I’d send this email query.

I am looking for inspirational quotes that would be particularly applicable to academic staff.  The usual Google Search returns such a vast universe of quotes (many good… most, not so much), that I thought I would simply ask the question:  Do you have a favored inspirational quote or saying that energizes you or your staff?

Many thanks in advance for sharing.

Back to lurking now…

Kelly
