Dear colleagues

Many thanks to Sue for prompting this discussion and gathering together such a useful collection of resources - we'll definitely be adding some links to our website.

This year, we've run an online version of our module for programme leaders. It's entirely open; we partly do this to facilitate participation from programme leaders in our partner institutions, but also to enable us to share ideas with others. A few people from other institutions participated in certain parts of it this year. We plan to run it again in the summer term 2016 and we wondered if anyone on the list would like to participate in the further development and sharing of materials? Whilst the procedural aspects of the role are likely to be very institution-specific, the strategic ones are much more general and I think colleagues really benefit from seeing how the larger questions are answered in different contexts.

This year's course is still up at https://programmeleadership.wordpress.com/ - if you click on the ‘topics’ tab, you can see what we covered in each of the six weeks of the programme this year. Whilst we offer this as an accredited 15 credit module to our staff, people can do all of the activities without doing the final assignment.

If you’re interested in working on this with us, please do let me know and we could set up an online meeting for early next term. I’m away for a couple of weeks after today but will reply as soon as I get back.

Best wishes

Rachel

Subject: Summary of support for programme leaders - plain text version g

The html version I sent previously didn't look as I expected! Here is a plain text version which might be easier to read.

Thank you to everyone who responded to my request for information around support for programme leaders in your institutions.

Responses ranged from doing very little and wanting to develop the area to more comprehensive support mechanisms. I’ve extracted the key areas of support below to share with the list.

Shared online resources were all valuable and interesting in particular the HEA report Academic leadership: developing a framework for the professional development of programme leaders’ (September 2007) Johnston and Westwood
