Dear RDM Colleagues,

For those of you who provide a Research Data Catalogue (Digital Asset Register) service at your institution, I would be most grateful if you could answer the following questions which relate to the ‘extent’ to which your catalogue service references data assets.

The rationale behind these questions is related to how a data catalogue can help researchers manage their data assets, and how their institution can maintain visibility of certain research outputs.

1)      does your catalogue only reference datasets published in an open data repository ?

2)      in addition to the above, does your catalogue provide a reference to other datasets that might of interest to researchers, e.g. for re-use, but which are not published in an open repository, or indeed even sitting in a digital repository ?

3)      If the answer to 2) is ‘yes’, do you publish all these additional records openly, or are they restricted to institutional members of staff, for example, data administrators/research librarians ?

Many thanks in advance,

Ben.
