Thousands of lives could be at risk after High Court courts judges ruled
snooping powers were unlawful in a humiliating defeat for Theresa May

Senior judges said the Data Retention and Investigatory Powers Act (Dripa)
did not provide sufficient safeguards when the police and security services
“spy on citizens”.

They ruled that the surveillance powers, which allow access to phone and
email records, should be limited to combating terrorism and serious crime.
