Dear colleagues,

I am sad to report that a true pioneering scientist, Sister Mary Ellen
Murphy, passed away yesterday. She was part of the founding generation
of researchers in our field, and helped bring organic geochemistry into
the modern era, notably through her work on lunar samples and in the
Viking missions.

A news release on Sr. Murphy can be found on the website of Univ. of
Saint Joseph, where she was a Professor of Chemistry, and Trustee Emerita.
