I’m thinking of using “reading for pleasure”? Better ideas welcome!

I'm wondering why FE students are to be encouraged to read fiction (novels?). Extra-curricular reading could include poetry and non-fiction. Is fiction supposed to improve students written English? Is "War and Peace" to be preferred over a military history of the Battle of Waterloo?

To satisfy "bosses" you could call it literature, rather than fiction, but that might put off the students ... ?

Subject: Fiction for FE Students

Hello,

I wondered what experience you have of getting FE students to read fiction. We have not had many students use our fiction section in the last few years and therefore our bosses want to drastically reduce our fiction books. Do you still promote fiction books and how do you do this?
