Hi Ted

You might find the Lis-alumni mailing list useful if you haven't already discovered it: [log in to unmask] It's a list that has become increasingly lively in recent years and is now very useful for all things ex-student!

Kind regards

Dear Ted and list members,

You can set this up with Classic Athens or Single Sign-On, defining different types of users (e.g. staff, student, alumni) with corresponding permissions (or not) according to authorised user permissions as defined by each of your licences.

Behind this statement lies a significant amount of work in identifying authorised users for every resource, classifying your users by their type, setting up permissions sets, testing to ensure 100% match between user types and permissions for each resource (checking in particular for no false positives i.e. access allowed where it should be forbidden), and if you also use EZproxy you will need to find a way to fit this in too...

Best wishes,
Laura

Subject: [lis-e-resources] Providing access to e-resources for alumni

Hi all,

We are looking into the possibility of providing access for former students to various journals and databases which permit alumni access. Would any libraries be willing to share their experiences on how they facilitate this access technically and logistically?

If anyone has had success providing access to certain platforms which have mixed permissions - for example EBSCOhost has some collections which permit alumni access and others that do not - then I would be particularly interested.

Many thanks,

Ted
