Subject: Upcoming Autism Clinical Research post

Dear Colleagues,

We are writing to let you know about an exciting autism clinical research post that will shortly be advertised at Newcastle University. We would be very grateful if you could please distribute this information via your training and clinical networks and to potentially suitable candidates/other appropriate email lists.

The 2-3 year post is suitable for a medically trained paediatric or adult trainee (paediatrician, child and adolescent psychiatrist, specialist or general adult psychiatrist) or a clinical psychologist.

We wish to appoint a candidate with some experience of the diagnosis and management of children or adults with autism spectrum disorder to undertake research around the methods and measures used in adult diagnosis. The post is part of a broader programme of research into adulthood and autism being undertaken in Newcastle (see https://research.ncl.ac.uk/adultautismspectrum/).

There will be training opportunities, and an opportunity to undertake either an MD or a PhD. The successful candidate will be involved in dissemination of the results and we anticipate they will be part of a team writing multiple research publications. This post would suit someone wanting to gain research experience, or someone with experience who is considering a clinical academic career.

The post will be advertised in June through http://www.jobs.ac.uk/, and the successful applicant will be expected to commence working with us by the end of September 2015.

Ahead of the advert coming out, we’d be happy to discuss the post with interested candidates, and address queries about how Out of Training Programme applications can be made, or time away from NHS posts organised. Informal discussions can be arranged by emailing:
