Dear Colleagues,

Apologies for any cross postings.

We hope you consider submitting an abstract for the 2015 AGU Fall Meeting to our session,

"V019: Innovative approaches to deciphering metamorphic processes"

The advent of and increased accessibility to high-resolution techniques for studying the geochemistry and structure of individual phases has spawned a new era of metamorphic petrology. Tools such as in situ geochemistry and geochronology, pseudosection modeling, and single-element thermometry have allowed petrologists to explore metamorphism at smaller spatial and temporal scales than ever before. This has lead to new and exciting ways of understanding oceanic and continental subduction, slab/mantle interaction, rheology, mantle dynamics, exhumation, crustal growth, regional and contact metamorphism, the rates and kinetics of metamorphic processes, and (elemental) mass transfer. This session welcomes studies of all aspects of metamorphism, particularly those that use innovative and integrated approaches to understanding the pressure-temperature-time-deformation (P-T-t-D) histories of metamorphic terranes. Technical approaches may include, but are not limited to, field and structural analysis, petrologic/thermal modeling, geochemistry, geochronology, experimental petrology, diffusional studies, geophysical observations, and integrated approaches (e.g. petrochronology, mineral-inclusion studies).

Confirmed invited speakers include:

Sean Mulcahy – Western Washington University

Tanya Ewing - Université of Lausanne

Matthijs Smit - University of British Columbia

Horst Marschall - Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute

The abstract deadline is August 5.
